The Many Uses of Steel Sheds

When it comes to sheds, there’s almost nothing more versatile than steel sheds.  A steel shed can be used for a wide variety of purposes and due to the versatility of steel, steel sheds can be useful for anything from a small tool shed to a large shed, building or even steel garage or car port.

Here are some great uses for steel sheds:

Steel garden sheds – A steel garden shed can be a durable and functional space for storing garden tools and equipment, garden furniture and more.  While it may not blend into the natural look of your backyard as well as a wooden shed, you can find steel garden sheds that have attractive finishes so they complement your backyard décor, rather than detracting from it.

steel shedSteel storage sheds – A steel storage shed, like a steel garden shed, offers durability and functionality and can store items of any size.  You can choose from large steel sheds or small steel sheds to best suit your storage needs, but whatever style you choose, you can rest easy knowing you have chosen a low maintenance option that will last for many years.

Steel sheds and garages – Since steel sheds are so strong and durable, they can be easily constructed large enough to function as more than just steel sheds.  Garages are one way that large steel sheds can add functionality to your home or business space.  These types of garages can have large shed doors that open and close to allow a vehicle to enter or exit, or they can be three sided structures without doors and can function more like a steel carport.  Either way, the difference between the structure of a large steel shed and a steel garage or carport is very similar and can provide lots of functional space.

Steel tool sheds – A steel tool shed is not much different than a steel storage shed, except that it is typically on the small size.  Adding interior shelves, racks and hooks to easily hold tools is easy to do within a steel shed and some companies offer tool storage systems that work directly with their steel shed designs.

If you have decided that you prefer a steel shed to a wooden shed, plastic shed, or other type of metal shed, then the next step in your decision making process is deciding how you want to purchase your steel shed.  You can find steel sheds for sale at a variety of retailers and pricing will depend on aspects such as the size of the shed, the gauge of the steel, and how far the shed has to be delivered, as well as where it will be installed.  You can also find steel sheds from online retailers such as amazon.com and Ebay and can even find used steel sheds at places such as craigslist.

There are a number of manufacturers that sell steel sheds, as well as many steel companies that will make custom steel sheds.  Some of the more popular companies are Arrow, Brentwood, Gambrel, and more.   Arrow steel sheds come in a variety of styles and sizes, as do the other companies as well.  You can find an Arrow steel shed, Gambrel steel shed, or steel shed by other major manufacturers at online sites such as nextag.com, elitedeals.com, and even places such as Home Depot, Lowe’s or Walmart.  Steel shed prices can vary widely, but if you don’t want the expense of purchasing a custom steel shed or a fully installed prefabricated steel shed, there are other less expensive options.

One option for steel frame sheds is to purchase steel shed kits and assemble them on your own.  This is a less expensive option than purchasing a fully assembled and delivered steel frame shed, but won’t require a ton of work or any knowledge of major carpentry skills.  A steel shed kit can be purchased from most companies that sell steel sheds and you can even purchase one online and have it shipped.  The kit contains all of the materials and parts needed to construct the steel shed style you have chosen, along with detailed directions on how to assemble the shed. Everything is already pre-cut and pre-measured so all you need to do is follow the step-by-step instructions to put it altogether.

For those with some carpentry skills that want to save even more, you can purchase steel shed plans online or can find shed plans in a book and then can build a steel shed on your own following the instructions laid out in the plans.  You will need to purchase all of the materials, including things like roofing material, hinges, and even steel shed doors, in addition to the steel sheets and support poles needed to construct the main steel building shed.  You will then have to measure and cut the steel sheets and supports, and then assemble the steel shed parts according to the plans.  This will result in a cheaper steel shed, but will require a lot more time and effort than starting with a steel shed building kit.

No matter what type of steel shed you buy, from a custom steel shed to a DIY steel shed, the addition to your home or business can provide a durable, low maintenance storage option for everything from tools, lawn equipment and furniture to an extra vehicle.  Steel sheds offer versatility and have many uses for homeowners and businesses alike.
