Shopping for a Pop Up Gazebo

If you are not in need of a permanent shade structure but only need one in your backyard on occasion, or need to have something that is portable enough to take with you, then a pop up gazebo is just the answer.  Pop up gazebos are basically portable tents that can be set up when needed and taken down when not in use.  There are a variety of pop up gazebos on the market and while most will serve their intended purpose, there are still a few factors to consider before purchasing one.

pop up gazeboA pop up gazebo consists of four legs along with a support system that holds the pop up gazebo canopy tent.  The structure offers a respite from the sun or shields you from the rain.  The legs can be made from steel, aluminum or PVC plastic.  Those with steel legs are the sturdiest, although they are also the heaviest.  If you are looking to get a large pop up gazebo to be used primarily in your backyard or for occasions where there will be many people under it, then it is worth carrying around a little extra weight for the support a steel pop up gazebo provides.

If, on the other hand, you plan on taking your pop up gazebo on the road with you a lot and you want an easy pop up gazebo that is also lightweight, then you should purchase one with aluminum support legs.  The aluminum legs and support poles will still be durable, while being lighter to carry around than their steel counterparts.  This is the perfect option if you are looking for a beach pop up gazebo to be able to quickly set up on the sand for a day in the sun, or if you go to a lot of sporting events or other outdoor events where you need to be able to quickly set up and take down the pop up gazebo tent but need something that will hold up to the constant set up and take down.

pop up gazeboAnother option is to select a pop up gazebo that comes with PVC or plastic poles, but while these are lightweight like the aluminum models, they are not nearly as durable as aluminum or steel.  They are a good option if you just need an inexpensive shade canopy, but they do not have the strength and durability of the other models.

When it comes to the gazebo canopy, most models all have a synthetic polyester cover on them that is water resistant.  It should shield you from the rain, although after a long time in the rain, the cheaper models will start to get a bit soggy.  You do not usually have a choice of colors, designs or fabrics when it comes to selecting a pop up gazebo canopy, but different brands will have different colors or types of canopies on them.  They are not customized like more permanent gazebo canopies can be, although there are a number of companies that offer canopies with sports teams’ logos or other designs.  Some companies sell NFL gazebos, NASCAR gazebos, college logo gazebos and other items.  You can even get gazebos branded for your company or business.

Most pop up gazebos come in a carrying bag for easy transport.  Most also come in standard sizes.  The most popular is a 10 x 10 pop up gazebo, but you can sometimes find ones that are a little larger as well.  Pop up gazebo prices can range from less than $50 to as much as a few hundred dollars.  How much you choose to spend will depend on what you are using the gazebo tent for and how long you plan on keeping it.  Sometimes, if you wait until the end of the summer season you can catch a pop up gazebo sale at retailers that are looking to clear out their summer merchandise and you can get one for a steal.   If you don’t need one right away but want to have a canopy tent on hand for times that you might need it, waiting for stores to put their pop up gazebos on sale is a great way to get a good model at a good price.

A pop up gazebo serves many functions.  It can be a place to hideout in the rain in your own backyard or to shield yourself from the sun.  It can be used at the beach, at a park, for a picnic, at a ball game or on a camping trip.  There are plenty of opportunities to use a pop up gazebo if you have one.  All you need to do is throw it in the car and take it with you when you’re heading out for some outdoor fun.
